15 - Sama'ee Darej Hijaz scale
In lesson 15 we are introduced to the Sama'ee Darej Hijaz scale which is an application on Al Hijaz scale and the concept of syncopation which Tareq has explained in previous lessons. He starts by explaining the note and tempo , then the Sama'ee Darej template while putting the musical lines in order in this template. Tareq starts reading the bars by rhythm and then reading the notes in each bar in order to play them while highlighting the notes, then he finishes by playing it completely, start to finish. __ Hello my name is Tareq Al Jundi from i3zif.com. Today in lesson no. 15 from the curriculum of Mr. Omar Abbad we will learn Sama’ee Darej Hijaz. I want to tell you a little about this template. First of All Sama’ee Darej is the name of the tempo, the tempo here is ¾.. second of all Sama’ee Darej Hijaz, the Sama’ee template we will learn later in the third course is Sama’ee Thaqeel.. here we have Sama’ee Darej, but same template. First we will play the first line.. once we play the first line we will move on to the second line. The second line as we have here, it is noted with Signo, which is its reference. At the end of the line you will find a sign which is a circle with a cross inside, it is called Coda. This sign will not be effective now, it is a forward jump. Until we repeat the signo. We will play the first line, finish and move on to the second, finish it and move on to the third.. when we move on to the third line, we play till the end of it, we find the signo.. we go back to the signo in the second line, play the signo and reach the Coda, it will be activated now.. then we jump to the Coda in the last line and continue.. then we find the signo, go back to the signo, play the second line and finish with the finale.. the Coda represented the Jump, why? If we played the first line, finished it.. played the second line and finished it, moved to the third line and then back to the second line, played the signo again then played the third line afterwards, then back to the signo and back to the second line, moving on to third line.. notice that we are stuck in a loop between the second and third line without moving downwards. This sign we put here, the Coda, which represents a jump forward, it enables me to jump from the second line to the fourth line.. the Coda is only effective once the Signo is activated and repeated. Signo , Mi Do Re Si Do La Si Sol Sol Do Si Do Re Mi Sol Fa Mi Re, last line Sol Sol Sol Sol Sol Sol La Sol Fa Mi Fa Fa Fa Fa Fa Fa Sol Fa Mi Re , repeat Sol Sol Sol Sol Sol Sol La Sol Fa Mi Fa Fa Fa Fa Fa Fa Sol Fa Mi Re, Signo, Mi Do Re Si Do La Si Sol Sol Do Si Do Re Mi Sol Fa Mi Re.. and Stop.. I want to tell you something.. in the Sama’ee template, each part is called a category, the first part, or line is called Category 1, the second line or Signo is called delivery, which is repeated and is used to deliver to the next category , the third line is the second category.. once we finish the second category we go to the delivery, once we finish the delivery we go to the end which is third category and back to delivery. This results in the format of the Sama’ee first category, delivery, second category, delivery, third category and finish with delivery. Another thing I want to tell you about the second line, the signo : Mi Do Re Si, the pick movement is down up down down, it is Mi Do Re Si, this Si is ♭ ½ Si, and should be down, down up down down, down up down down.. then, Sol Do Si Do Re … Mi Sol Fa Mi Re.. normal pick movement.. in the second category, ♭ ½ Si, Si Si Si Si Si, then Si Do Si La Sol, then La La La La La, Sol La Fa Mi Re.. let us try to play along with the metronome 1 2 3 .. delivery.. second category.. delivery.. repeat delivery .. third category.. repeat.. delivery.. repeat delivery.. this way we have played the Sama’ee with the repeats.. now I will try to play it in its original tempo.. be careful when flipping the pick in the delivery down up down down down up down down.. you can also write the pick direction over the bars, notes and categories to memorize them.. practice well, Sama’ee is very beautiful..
